Let me just say it—glass globe vanity lights are ridiculously hard to clean in real life. Dust, fingerprints, smudges, even soap scum—it all shows. You’ve got to stay on top of maintenance to keep them looking good. I never knew which bulb to use either, since there’s no hiding it.

This was supposed to be a small fix before a full bathroom renovation down the line, but I’m actually surprised at how big of a difference this little change made.
BEFORE

AFTER

Our original glass shades were classic builder-grade: bright, harsh, and impossible to keep clean. I swapped them for these white linen clip-on shades.

Technically meant for chandeliers, but with the right bulbs, they clipped on perfectly. The only “hack” was unscrewing the little collar holding the glass globes—then clip on the new shade. Simple, fast, zero tools required.

Is This Vanity Light Update a Long Term Solution?
Honestly, maybe. Unless I fall in love with something new during the full bathroom overhaul, these might just stay. Sometimes the simplest fixes really do the trick

This update didn’t cost a thing because I already had the shades on hand.
The lighting now feels soft and cozy but still bright enough. It even makes the paint color look better! The linen shades feel like they were always supposed to be there.
I’ve taken the same restore-before-replace approach in other projects too, see how easy it is to refresh the wood on your vanity

DIY Bathroom Lighting FAQ
Not for a simple light swap. As long as the wiring is already in place and you turn off the power, you can do this yourself.
About 10–20 minutes start to finish.
Warm 2700K or lower, dimmable LED candelabra bulbs work best for bathrooms.
They fit most candelabra-style bulbs, but double-check the bulb shape and size first.
